It was written. Not all of life can be planned, rationalised or imagined. Sometimes things are just ment to be. This commission piece was a tale of resilience and faith. An unexpected turn in life lead to a beautiful story. I am grateful to this family for untrusting me in telling it, in my own way.

I chose palm board as my canvas for this special piece as I wanted a support that was strong, modest but with depth and importantly link to the region. It is a material usually used for construction. Strong, functional and often overlooked.

Made from compressed palm fibres, it is sustainable, humble and resilient. Designed to support, not to be seen.

The palm tree sits at the heart of Emirati culture. It provides, it protects, it works quietly. I wanted to honour that strength and shift the narrative.

Working with inks and pigments, I let the surface guide me. The fibres decide where to reveal and where to conceal, much like the way I use words
